These are some songs I've written. Note that the MP3s are computer-generated, which means among other things that there's no voice in them, just an instrument playing the melody for the voice!

More is more

This is the first song I ever wrote (and the most aggressive so far). It's about people who live their whole lives missing the point of things. I also wrote the lyrics (in Norwegian). The title is a reference to someone who doesn't understand that "less is more".

Flette

This is the second song I wrote. The lyrics, about love and regret, are based on the videogame "Braid", hence the title. I also wrote the lyrics (in Norwegian).

Uten Kompass

I wrote the music for some already written lyrics. The idea was conveying a feeling of being stuck or going in circles, which made me come up the chorus first (in 5/4). The rest of the song was to be in regular 4/4, but when I wrote one of the bridges, I thought it would sound much better in 3/4, so the song ended up with a lot of time signature changes.

The Spaceman

I found the chord progression used in the introduction by chance and I thought it would be cool to write a song with it. As I had Spiritualized in my head while writing this song, I decided to write the lyrics (in English this time) about Jason Pierce's near-death experience.

Bars

This is an experiment with odd time signatures. I started with 7/8, but I thought it would sound better with a 9/8 every four bars. It's about the limitations we place upon ourselves, the "jails of our minds".

Melvin

I wrote this song in the exact opposite order as normal (ie. I first wrote the lyrics, then the vocal melody, drums, bass and finally guitar) as an experiment. The result is another relatively angry song, a kind of eulogy for a comedian that unfortunately died years ago.

Wake me up

Another song written after already written lyrics. Initially I wanted to write a "metal" song, but it turned out quite different. The chorus vocal melody is quite a bit lower than the verse because it's written to be sung by two people, or at least have backing vocals.

Tomt blikk

I wanted to write some riff-oriented song and after playing around for a while I found this riff. The idea was writing a some upbeat and positive song. I tried several times to put lyrics to it but didn't find anything I liked, so someone else ended up writing them.

Mono Stereo

Had to write music for given lyrics, and after so many experiments I decided to give it a go at writing something as simple as I could (C major). The idea was to make a contrast between duller verses (C major/A minor) and more interesting choruses. Accidentally I discovered that it sounds pretty good with just piano + voice.

Dyr

I wanted to write more on the hard rock/metal side. I had bought a China cymbal and wanted a more aggressive sound on the drums. The title is a play on words with animal and costly, and the lyrics are inspired in global warming and the general theme of human stupidity.

The Dawn

This is a sort of homage to Federico García Lorca, and also somewhat to Enrique Morente and his album "Omega". The lyrics are a translation of "La aurora" (lit. "The Dawn") by Lorca.
